Alistair: In one participant’s first attempt, the document in Open Office appears to have double line spacing; that is, every line seems to have a blank line after it. Open Office settings seem to indicate the spacing is single line, but that is not how it appears. Any ideas? (They are not extra lines – there is only one paragraph marker as expected)
Greg: Which layout does she choose?
Alistair: We copied “TwoColumn” and made a few changes to it.
Greg: ok, you might try starting with Fieldworks styles and then make the changes from there. (Most of the recent testing has been done with that layout). The SIL Charis font tends to put a lot of space between the lines to allow for stacked diacritics. This means that even single spaced looks double spaced. The other layout, (orther than Fieldworks Styles) are based on SIL Charis (at GPS request). SIL Charis is considered “best practice.” Fieldworks style takes the fonts the user has set up in the Fieldworks style sheet … which can of course be SIL Charis too. If the problem persists, you can set Open Office to use fixed line height. (We also added a css command for this but I don’t remember if we included it in any of the shipped style sheets.
Alistair: That may well be the problem, and I remember people asking for a compress Charis font for that reason. If trying FieldWorks Styles didn’t fix it, we would have seen if using Charis would change it but FieldWorks styles is a significant improvement in this case.
